Peggy Placier is an associate professor in Education Policy Studies program of the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Her areas of teaching include social foundations of teacher education, sociology of education, history of education policy, women in education, and research methods. In her courses she emphasizes a critical analysis of schooling in the social contexts of political structures, cultural communities, and ethical perspectives.

Placier conducts qualitative research on the topics of teacher education practice and policy, state and district policy formation, and the language or rhetoric of policymaking, using sociolinguistic and ethnographic approaches. Currently she is at work on articles and a book resulting from a longitudinal study of teacher education reform funded by NSF, as well as a chapter with Peter M. Hall on leadership in the Coalition of Essential Schools. Her articles have been published in journals such as Educational Evaluation and Policy Analysis, Education Policy, Curriculum Inquiry, Qualitative Studies in Education, and Educational Administration Quarterly, and she has also published a number of book chapters.

She holds a B.A. (English, Secondary Education) from Ohio University, an M.A. in Anthropology and Ph.D. in Educational Foundations from the University of Arizona. Placier also serves as a member of the MU Faculty Council and is a member of AERA, AESA, and the American Anthropoligical Association.
